Whale Jawbone Fence

In the little village of Juvre on the island of Rømø, a fence built of whalebone dating from 1772 is preserved, protected by the National Museum. As neither wood nor stones were available on the island, the residents used this unusual material, brought from their whaling expeditions to Greenland.
