Worth-while seeing in Branderup
Flora Next to the street, Branderup Bygade, you will come upon the now somewhat rare Red Butterbur.
The water mill Branderup This water mill was the natural centre of the parish for more than 500 years. The water mill belonged to the King, and the local peasants had mill soke (paid a tax to the King).
The dairy Mejeriet
The dairy was one of the recipients during the epoke of Branderup Mølle. Right next to the mill, there were 2 mill dams, both of which were dammed up during winter, which meant it was possible in those days to produce heaps of ice during the hard winters. The ice was sawn out in blocks, where some were used in the household at Møllegården, and a large amount – more than 200 m3 – was delivered to the dairy. – Today, the dairy is one of the largest cheese dairies in Denmark.

Agerskov/Branderup is situated in the heart of the most beautiful region in Southern Jutland
Here you will come upon the forest, Mandbjerg skov, which is full of impressive flora
Agerskov is an old church parish situated in the middle of Southern Jutland. Another kind of forest adventure Gammelskov batteri. Roughly 3 km northeast of Agerskov right in the middle of the battery, Gammelskov Krat, you will come upon the remains of the greatest and strongest battery in the Sikringsstilling Nord; the battery, Batteri 18, which survived the explosion in the 1920s, and all the trenches. In addition, you can find remains of the concrete, partly overgrown with moss and wild ivy.
Batteriet i Gammelskov Krat
- One of the strongpoints in the fortified line, Sicherungsstellung Nord, which stretched all the way across Southern Jutland during the 1st World War. The almost 250 meter long battery trench meant Gammelskov batteri was the largest bastion in the entire fortified line. In 1980, the battery was scheduled as a monument. The battery had command over 2 marine canons of 24 cm in the armoured turrets. During the period 1905-6, there was high tension between Germany and England-France. The German general staff feared an English landing in Jutland, if the situation escalated to war, and therefore acted accordingly. One must assume that by 1906, a fortified line all the way across Southern Jutland had been planned on paper and in the terrain.
Pay a visit to the ground floor rooms in the inn, Agerskov Kro, and enjoy the many old pictures, paintings and other ornaments from times gone by.
